Boobie-Q 2013 is Quickly Approaching!
It’s that time of year again. The first weekend of June is quickly approaching which means its time for the BoobieQ!
For those that do not know the history of this amazing event, let me fill you in. My mom was diagnosed on December 2, 2011 with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Her days and weeks seemed numbered but hope could not be lost. That is when the unspoken milestones began. June 2, 2012 was 6 months away. 6 months to a person (and the family) with stage 4 cancer is more like 6 years, which is exactly why this was our first major milestone. Get my mom to live 6 months! I would repeat that in my mind over and over again. In December I had signed up for the Susan G Komen 3 Day event, the biggest breast cancer event I could find. I recruited a friend to walk with me which meant we had to raise $4600 to be able to participate in the 3Day event. Therefore, I needed to plan my own event to make this happen. June 2nd seemed like the most perfect date, 6 months
We started spreading the word in January. I was so stuck on the 6 month milestone, there was no budging the date. There were times during that 6 months period that we all thought my mom’s attendance would not a reality. But over and over again she proved to be a true pink warrior. Not only was my mom in attendance for the first BoobieQ, she helped me make the decorations, food, snacks, and crafts. What an amazing feat! And even though I remember how much pain she was in on that day, no one else knew it. She put on a smile on her face and asked what she could do to help
There was no question that the BoobieQ would be a go this year; same time, same place. My mom made me and Val (Silly Sally) promise that we would host this event every year in her memory. We raised $2300 last year. The show must go on. We are still in this fight and will continue to do what we can to fight cancer. For me, this day will be emotional and almost bittersweet. But I must keep my promise to my mom and the millions of other people who are still fighting. I want us to win the battle against cancer
So, please join us on June 1st for the second annual BoobieQ. Come enjoy yourself and the company of others who are all there for the common cause, help find a cure!
